Pines is located in John Muir College and is one of the most popular dining halls on campus. Pines is divided into six sections: the grill/breakfast, pasta/pizza/daily menus, stir-fry/sushi, sandwich/salad bar, soup, and dessert station. My favorite station is the stir-fry station, where they serve stir-fry noodles on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and curry on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All stations usually serve the same options except for the station that serves pasta/pizza/daily menus. Some of the dishes served at this station can be good, but it may be better to stick with the stir-fry options. There's usually a long line for stir-fry, so I go to the pasta/pizza station when I am too lazy to wait in line. The sandwich station is also a bit special here because they have freshly cooked roast beef and ham! As you can tell, Pines has a variety of options that are served everyday, which may be the reason why it is so popular! It is also located near many lecture halls, so Pines can get really busy at peak dining times. Pines has a large space for students to eat, but it gets full very quickly. Therefore, I bring my food to Roots and eat it there, rather than attempting to find a seat at Pines.
My favorite Pines dish: Stir-fry udon noodles with pork, onions, bell peppers, green beans, bean sprouts, garlic, and half dragon/half soy ginger sauce.
* Many students mix their sauces to get a better balance in taste. The dragon sauce is spicy, soy ginger sauce is sweet, and ponzu sauce is sour, so I like to mix the dragon and soy ginger sauce. All options are customizable!
